Test Backplanes

In the volume production of diverse peripheral hardware for computers, two critical needs must be addressed: reducing production testing time and protecting test equipment from assembly-induced damage. Efficient testing processes are essential for productivity, while equipment protection safeguards against costly repairs or replacements due to overcurrent and overvoltage issues caused by manufacturing defects.

Key Requirements for Production Testing:

  1. Efficient Testing and Replacement:
Technicians need the ability to test multiple devices (DUTs – Devices Under Test) simultaneously. Quick replacement of tested devices with new ones and easy access for power and signal verification are vital to streamline operations.
  2. Equipment Protection:
Test equipment is expensive and vulnerable to damage from overcurrent in power lines or overvoltage on signal lines caused by assembly faults. Robust protection mechanisms are essential to mitigate these risks.

Test backplanes are specially designed to meet these challenges, offering the following features:

    • Versatile Compatibility:
Accommodates a range of hardware types, including PCI, PCIe, MiniPCI, MiniPCIe, and M.2 boards, ensuring seamless testing for various device configurations.
    • Open-Concept Design:
Provides easy access for technicians to inspect, replace, or probe DUTs, regardless of size or configuration.
    • Advanced Testing Features:
Includes adjustable power delivery, real-time current monitoring, and voltage regulation for reliable testing.
    • Parallel Testing Capability:
Supports multiple connectors or circuits to test several DUTs simultaneously, significantly reducing overall production time.
    • Hot-Swap Functionality:
Enables power to be turned off for replacing DUTs without shutting down the host test equipment, ensuring continuous operation and minimal downtime.

Test backplanes are an indispensable tool in modern production assembly lines, enhancing efficiency, ensuring safety, and enabling seamless testing of diverse hardware types.

PCI Express Gen 3 Test Backplane

PCI Express Gen 3 Test Backplane

The Amfeltec’s PCI Express Gen 3 Test Backplane is an advanced, high-performance testing solution designed to streamline production testing and debugging of PCI Express boards. Ideal for technician in electronics testing and development, this backplane provides reliable simultaneous testing for up to four PCI Express boards at the same time. Built to PCI Express 4.0 standard, it seamlessly connects to a host computer via a CAT7 cable and a choice of PCI Express, MiniPCI Express or ExpressCard® host boards.

Its versatile design, combined with robust overvoltage and overcurrent protection, hot-swap capabilities, and real-time monitoring, makes it dependable platform for efficient testing, programming, and debugging of complex PCI Express boards. Manufactured to stringent RoHS standards, the PCI Express Backplane exemplifies Amfeltec’s commitment to high-quality, innovative solutions for professional-grade testing and development environments.

PCi Test Backplane
The PCI Express Gen 1 Test Backplane was designed to support production testing/debugging of PCIe-based peripheral boards. The backplane expands the Host computer’s x1 PCI Express or ExpressCard® interface into one x4 and three x1 PCI Express slots via a 7 ft CAT6 cable. The PCI Express backplane is a versatile platform that allows you to test up to 4 PCI Express boards simultaneously, facilitates easy access to logic signals, provides hot-swap compatibility and per-slot overcurrent protection. The backplane provides access to the PCIe-bus JTAG signals, thus acting as a universal device for FPGA/CPLD programming/loading during production and testing
The Multi-Interface Test Backplane was designed to support hardware and software designers who need to plug products with different interfaces (into the host computer). This backplane expands the x1 PCI Express or ExpressCard® interface (of a desktop/laptop) into x16 PCI Express (4 lanes), 32-bit PCI, MiniPCI, MiniPCIe, and ExpressCard® interfaces via a 7 ft CAT6 cable. Having all these interfaces located on a single backplane allows designers to keep the host system unchanged during debugging.
Pci Test Backplane
The 32-bit PCI Test Backplane was designed to support production testing/debugging of PCI-based peripheral boards. The backplane expands the x1 PCI Express or ExpressCard® interface of the host computer into four 32-bit PCI slots via 7 ft CAT6 cable. The PCI backplane is a versatile platform that allows you to test up to 4 PCI boards simultaneously, facilitates easy access to logic signals, provides hot-swap compatibility and per-slot overcurrent protection.
MiniPCI Express Gen 2 Test Backplane
The MiniPCI Express Gen 2 Test Backplane was designed to support production testing and debugging different kind of MiniPCI express boards. This backplane expands the Host computer’s PCI Express, MiniPCI Express, or ExpressCard® interface into seven MiniPCI Express Gen 2 slots via 5 or 10 ft. CAT7 cable and 10-pins flat Power Control cable.
