PCI Express Carrier board for eight MiniPCIe modules was designed to expand modern motherboards with PCI Express interface. It is the first product in the Squid PCI Express Carrier Board™ family. It complaints with MiniPCI Express 2.1 and PCI Express Gen 3 specifications.
The board features a PCI Express Gen 2 switch, which splits the upstream PCI Express interface from the motherboard into eight independent MiniPCI Express circuits. By utilizing a PCI Express switch, the carrier board eliminates the need for PCI Express bifurcation support from the motherboard, ensuring compatibility with any motherboard. It includes two USB connectors, both of which have to be connected to a standard 5×2 USB header on the motherboard via the included SKU-43-15 cable. The J2 USB connector directly links to the U17 MiniPCI Express circuit, while the J1 USB connector connects to a USB 2.0 hub controller. Seven downstream USB ports from the hub provide connectivity for the U10–U17 MiniPCIe circuits. Each of the eight MiniPCI Express circuits supports PCI Express, USB, and SIM interfaces.
This one-slot-wide (2U) PCI Express board is positioned in the middle of the PCI Express slot. It connects to a motherboard via an interchangeable x1 or x4 PCI Express adapter, making it adaptable to various PCI Express slot sizes. The board accommodates four MiniPCIe circuits on the component side and four on the soldering side—all while maintaining PCI Express compliance (U.S. Patent 9,996,494).
The carrier board supports a wide range of high-bandwidth communication modules, including GSM, Wi-Fi, 4G/LTE, 5G, and full-HD video capture. It also enables channel bonding to enhance communication bandwidth, making it ideal for applications requiring robust and scalable connectivity.
