TORONTO – November 21, 2011 – AMFELTEC Corporation (www.amfeltec.com), a leading provider of equipment dedicated to hardware/software development and electronic design manufacturing, has expanded its Flexible PCI Express, MiniPCI and MiniPCI Express Splitter Suite (Suite) by adding MiniPCI and MiniPCI Express Adapter boards. Suite allows splitting and extending different types of interfaces via a 12” PCI Express Flat Cable. By using this Suite, it is possible to split MiniPCI, MiniPCI Express, 32-bit PCI and PCI Express interfaces into multiple 32-bit PCI, x1 PCI Express, MiniPCI or MiniPCI Express interfaces.
MiniPCI, MiniPCI Express and PCI Express interfaces are becoming increasingly popular in modern motherboards for embedded designs. These interfaces are very compact and support high bandwidth traffic between the motherboard itself and external add-in peripheral cards. At the same time, the number of peripheral connectors on the motherboards for add-in peripheral cards is becoming limited (usually one PCI Express connector and/or one MiniPCI Express connector or one MiniPCI connector). The new addition for the Suite is designed to expand modern motherboards by supporting MiniPCI and MiniPCI Express peripheral add-in cards.
Each product of the Suite includes a Host board (that supports PCI, x1 PCI Express, x4 PCI Express, MiniPCI or MiniPCI Express bus), multiple PCI Express Flat cables, and multiple Adapter boards that support plug-in 32-bit PCI, x1 PCI express, MiniPCI or MiniPCI Express add-in cards.
AMFELTEC pays additional attention to the mechanical stabilization of the external add-in peripheral boards and Host boards by implementing unique futures:
– Stabilization Tabs for add-in PCI express cards (U.S. Patent 7,255,570)
– PCI Express board Retainer for holding the PCI express Host board in the PCI express connector without a bracket (U.S. Patent 7,850,475)
“By using AMFELTEC Flexible PCI Express, MiniPCI and MiniPCI Express Splitter Suite, a designer can easily connects up to 4 peripheral add-in boards to one motherboard interface connector,” says Alexander Feldman, Director of Product Management at AMFELTEC Corporation. “This solution opens the market to using almost any motherboard for embedded designs, eliminating the limitation of a number of peripheral connectors on the motherboard. At the same time, by using a flexible connection via flat cable, the chassis design for embedded appliances becomes significantly easier and more cost effective. Above all, it allows appliances to be based on off-the-shelf motherboards, and to be independent of the location, type, and number of motherboard peripheral connectors.
The Suite is in full production.
