B-series PCI Express Gen3 Carrier board was designed as a cost-effective storage solution for the systems that are using a motherboard with PCI Express bifurcation support. Such motherboards can be configured in the BIOS to split x16 PCI interface to four PCI Express interfaces by utilizing the following PCIe lanes:
- x4 PCI Express interface 1: lanes 0,1,2,3 from x16 PCIe interface;
- x4 PCI Express interface 2: lanes 4,5,6,7 from x16 PCIe interface;
- x4 PCI Express interface 3: lanes 8,9,10,11 from x16 PCIe interface;
- x4 PCI Express interface 4: lanes 12,13, 14, 15, from x16 PCIe interface;
Each of four x4 PCI Express interface connects on the Carrier board to dedicated M.2 circuit.
Carrier board supports up to 4 any M.2 PCIe SSD (solid state drive) modules with M-key and length 2260, 2280 and 22110. The operating system recognizes each module as an individual hard disk and can combine them as RAID.
This Carrier board as all products from SQUID Carrier Board™ Family is a one-slot-wide, half-height PCI express board. It is based on the patented architecture when carrier board is located in the middle of the PCI express slot and connects to the motherboard PCI Express connector by exchangeable adapter (US Pat. 9,996,494; additional patient pending).
PCI Express Carrier board is complying with PCI Express Specification 3.0 and M.2 Specification 1.1.
