Amfeltec Releases the Smallest M.2 SSD Module PCIe Carrier Board on the Market for 1U Servers and Embedded Appliances
CANADA, Markham, October 4, 2016 – Amfeltec Corporation announced today that its new Squid PCI Express Gen3 Carrier Board (for M.2 PCI Express SSD modules) is now in full production.
Amfeltec’s new PCI Express Carrier Board is in the form of a standard one-slot-wide, 1U board; it has one M.2 connector (M-key; located on the top of the carrier board), and can accommodate any standard M.2 SSD with x4 PCI Express Gen3 Interface.
The new carrier board’s dimensions are 4 3/4” x 1 1/3” (121mm x 30mm), which makes it the smallest carrier board for PCI Express M.2 SSD modules on the market. The bracket, which is a typical obstacle of 1U vertical board placement, is absent on this model: the board sits firmly in its PCIe slot because of its small size, and because it features Amfeltec’s PCI Express Retainer (US Patent #7,850,475).
“Since the release of our Squid family, we have observed a demand for one consideration above all: size,” says Michael Feldman, President and CTO at Amfeltec Corp. “Our customers, in the servers and embedded computers market segments, all want the smallest possible boards due to typical size limitations.”
The new Carrier Board for M.2 SSD Module is based on the same patent-pending assembly concept as all the Squid products: the carrier board is located in the middle of the PCI Express slot. Such placement lets you to position your M.2 circuit further down, thus allowing you to install the carrier board vertically in 1U chassis. When multiple carrier boards are required, such installation will facilitate a RAID configuration.
The upstream connection from the carrier board to the motherboard is done via male x4 PCI Express adapter, with the option of an x1 version instead. This allows the carrier board to be inserted into different sizes of PCI Express connectors without encountering well-known limitations.
